Creator and owner of private reading assessment and instructional service company that provides services to individuals, school districts, and other organizations. Private practice reading consultant, reading diagnostician, and learning disabilities specialist. Licensed through June 2027 as Professional Educator – Teacher through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction at prekindergarten through secondary levels in reading, learning disabilities, and English and at the junior high level for social studies. Additional WI DPI license as Administrator - Reading Specialist ( Pre-K-12)through 2027.
Provides literacy services for learners from the preschool through university levels. Learning skills assessment and interventions provided for college-bound and university students. Adult reading development services from basic decoding through critical reading skills.
Resource in literacy issues. Participates in school-based special education consultations in developing student learning plans. Provides parent coaching services to support parents in their academic work with their children.

Directed Academic Development Program and the Reading and Study Skills Program for twelve years. Taught undergraduate efficient reading courses in the Academic Development Program for six years. Member of the Graduate Programs in Education, Professional Psychology, and Social Work since 1977 with specialization in the area of reading. Full-time faculty member in graduate reading program. Have taught the following courses with semester load varying depending upon regular and overload assignments: Developmental Reading in the Elementary School, Developmental Reading in the Secondary School, Reading and Writing in the Content Area, Adolescent Literature, Reading Practicum, Organization and Administration of Reading Programs, Instruction Systems Design. Several courses have been taught both on campus as well as in the off-campus external degree sites. Advised teacher education and licensure and graduate students as well as graduate students in MACI and MA in reading program. Program director for the graduate programs in reading 1989-1992. Participated in university-wide Education Policy Committee as a one semester substitution from the department. Member of Schools’ Faculty Tenure Review Committee. Initiator and convener of Teacher Education Advising Committee. Member of Children’s Literature committee. Created concept and co-planner for Hubbs Lecture Series and Children’s Literature Collection and Conference.
Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs

Invited to assist the vice president, I completed the College Management Certificate Program at Carnegie Mellon University in July 1988. Throughout the year, I assisted the vice president with routine administrative details as well as special projects. Met with him weekly. Participated on search committees for significant positions: university registrar and endowed chair of international management. Responsible in registrar search for broadening the identified poor of women candidates. Coordinated the details for the endowed chair search. Represented the vice president at committee meetings. Assisted in the preparation of reports for external agencies and campus purposes. Assisted in the drafting of correspondence as well as summaries of biweekly meeting of the deans which I regularly attended. Directed and supervised student workers in a research project examining the practice of granting dual degree course credits. Gathered information and drafted paper describing procedures for school closings because of inclement weather. Served as staff to the Organization Structure Task Force as discussions of reorganization of the academic side of the University took place. Co-authored the first working paper of the Task Force for distribution to the faculty. Assisted in the program review stages for programs being considered for approval by the Higher Education Coordinating Board. Worked with both university faculty in reviewing and revising the proposals and with the Program Advisory Committee members of HECB before each committee and board consideration of the proposals. Updated the Faculty Handbook. Communicated and cooperated with large numbers of internal and external publics in completing a broad range of work assignments.
Director, Hispanic Pre-College Project
January 1986 – January 1989
Responsible for the initial development of the project through the completion of Phase I, the Hispanic Educational Needs Assessment. Led meetings with administrators, faculty, community leaders, and consultants to define parameters of the project. Secured funding from external sources for Phase I. Major researcher of study and author of the final report. Developed and maintained working relationships with many urban educators and administrators as well, as with central office public school administrators. Recognized as a resource on minority children’s education needs by the St. Paul Foundation. Invited to join the information and information working group of the Minnesota Minority Education Partnership. Contributed to the increased awareness and efforts at the University to increase access for minority youth. Member of Minority Affairs Steering Committee. Administered all aspects of the Hispanic Pre-College Project including budgeting, staffing and supervision, and program planning.
Director, Reading and Study Skills Center
September 1977 – May 1988
Created, organized, and managed the Reading and Study Skills Center (RSSC). Responsible for budgeting of the RSSC, the Academic Development Program (described below), and the Writing Center. Selected, trained, and supervised staff which consisted of both professionals and student-workers as well as clerical staff. Conducted annual evaluations of the RSSC and prepared annual reports. Maintained the materials and equipment collection. Maintained excellent relationships with numerous University offices. Developed programs within the RSSC for serving learning on-campus students with learning disabilities. Coordinated services with athletic department, minority programs, New College (adult), graduate programs, and others. RSSC was recognized as an exemplary program by the National Center for Developmental Programs 1985.
Director, Academic Development Program
January 1978-1988
Directed this interdisciplinary freshman-year program which was begun in the fall semester of 1977. Conducted reviews of curriculum content with faculty of the program. Supervised up to fourteen program faculty teaching in the program annually. Responsible for hiring and supervising reading faculty teaching in the program. Shared responsibility for overall student selection with the offices of admissions, academic advising, academic dean, and English chair. Cooperatively designed a placement procedure which placed students in English sections as well as in the program. Coordinated course scheduling with department chairs and office of the academic dean. Conducted comprehensive end-of-year research on student achievement, including the monitoring of the academic performance as well as graduation and retention data. Conducted follow-up research with program participants at five- and ten-year intervals to examine long-term effects of program participation. Advised approximately thirty students each year. Member of Task Force on Retention. Member of ad hoc committee concerned with service delivery for students with handicaps. Program recognized as an exemplary program by the National Center for Developmental Programs in 1985.

Current Professional Development Activities
I read extensively on learning disability issues with a specific focus on dyslexia (including decoding, spelling, list and passage fluency, verbal retrieval and memory issues), written language, attention deficits, and nonverbal learning disabilities. Professional resources include journals accompanying the professional organization memberships, audiotapes from professional organization meetings, and my extensive professional library which is continually updated and expanded as new and relevant resources become available.
